G-men

Nice pick with Kenny Phillips....they were in need of a safety....I was surprised the Dolphins did not go with a QB to open round 2....

Nice pick by Cowboys

I like the pick of Mike Jenkins...he was one of the corners coming into the draft and some publications had him as high as #8 overall....

Also, I thought Green Bay may trade up to get Jenkins after they got toasted by Eli Manning...I was a big surprised there....all the top corners are now gone....

San Diego is coming up and I see them going with DeSean Jackson....

Dan Connor and Kenny Phillips are still out there too...

Chris Johnson

Hold on, I am not going to blast the Titans pick here because I like Chris Johnson A LOT!!!....he is in the Brian Westbrook mold where he can run and catch the ball....the Titans do need wide receiver help, but I cannot bash this pick....Chris Johnson is going to be a nice pro and a player who will help Vince Young....

Titans got to go WR

Tennessee needs a wide receiver badly....and they can get the pick of any receiver they want being that one has not been selected yet....

Great Picks

Great picks by Dallas and Pittsburgh...

Steelers Pick

The Steelers are up after Dallas....Pittsburgh has to take Mendenhall if he is still there....at this point, Mendenhall is a steal at that point...Pittsburgh has needs on both the O & D line, but they cannot pass up Mendenhall...

Sam Baker?

Teams are reaching for offensive tackles....I like Sam Baker a lot, but not to trade up and get him here...

Cowboys take either Felix Jones or DeSean Jackson...

First rape of the day

OMG!!!!....the Panthers OVERPAID for Otah....a 2nd, 4th, and next year's 1st!!!!

Andy Reid raped them!!!

I missed a pick!!!!!

WHAT THE HELL....The Lions were on the clock and commercial came on...so I put my head down to read Kiper's book...next time I look up, I see the Texans were on the clock...while we were at commercial, the Lions made their selection...and ESPN did not bring it to us live...that is bullshit!!!

Bucs have to take a wide receiver...DeSean Jackson or Devin Thomas...

Dallas is sitting nice with Felix Jones, Rashard Mendenhall, and either Jackson and Thomas there...

Picks 10-15

I love the agressiveness of the Chiefs to move up two spots and secure the offensive lineman they need in Branden Albert, a player who Mel Kiper had them selecting at #5 overall...

The Broncos got a steal in Ryan Clady...many projected Clady to be a top 10 pick...

Jerod Mayo to New England...hmmm, the guys on ESPN thought it was a good pick...but I have seen Mayo's name as low as mid second round...

Dallas is coming up at #22 and Felix Jones is still there...

Yes the Eagles need offensive line help, but with Albert now gone, they have to go with DeSean Jackson...I say that Jackson will be the first wide receiver taken in the draft at #19 to the Eagles...

Picks 7-9

New England did a nice job in picking up another 3rd round pick just to slide down 3 spots...

There is no doubt the Ravens are taking a quarterback at #26...Henne, Brohm, and/or Flacco should be there...

Jacksonville must think highly of Derrick Harvey...I had him going #10 to the Saints...the kid plays big in big games - ask Troy Smith...

The Bengals are on the clock and both Ellis and Harvey are gone...the Bengals may jump one of the corners...

First 6 picks

The first six picks were not a surprise...the Chiefs had to take Dorsey even though they have bigger needs...

New England is on the clock...look for the Patriots to take Ryan Clady, og, Boise State at number 7...

The latest

It looks like I was right with the Falcons taking Matt Ryan with the 3rd overall pick...Glenn Dorsey will then be a Raider...even though Al Davis likes Darren McFadden, he cannot pass up Dorsey who would replace Warren Sapp...

The Ravens were interested in moving to the #2 spot to get Matt Ryan but the Rams wanted too much in return...I have a feeling the Ravens will select Chad Henne from Michigan...then it will be another Michigan-Ohio State battle as Henne will compete with former OSU quarterback Troy Smith to be the starter for the Ravens...

The NFL Draft - A day off from school for me

Just a quick note about college basketball...ESPN is reporting that longtime Duke assistant basketball coach Johnny Dawkins has accepted the job to be the next head basketball coach at Stanford...

We are about an hour from the start of the Annual NFL League Meeting...or whatever is the official title of The Draft...

My best draft day memory is when I was in high school...back in those days, the draft was held at 8:00 a.m. on a Tuesday...my mom knew I was all into the draft and followed it closely, so she would always let me stay home from school and watch it...every hour or so I would get calls from my friends, and even teachers, Mr. Ryan and Mr. Barber, asking what was the latest...everyone in the school knew I was at home watching the draft...she would get me the morning newspapers and a bacon-egg biscuit with the hash rounds from Hardees...then it was TV time for the rest of the day...all I have to say - THANKS MOM!!!...

Chris Berman will be getting on my nerves within the first hour...

I love Mel...Kiper is the epitome of the American Dream...just a Joe Average fella who worked hard and became a success...

I hope ESPN cuts Ryan Leaf some slack this year...sure Leaf was an arrogant ass who was one of the biggest flops ever in the NFL...but everything I have read about Leaf recently seems as though he has his life on track and he is a productive person in society...he enjoys working as an assistant football coach for some small college up in Montana or Idaho...sometimes they make it like Leaf killed someone...\

Remember when Dr. Z would be on ESPN's coverage?....

Thoughts on defensive players

About two hours from The Draft...the one thing bugging the hell out of me today are my allergies...the pollen count here in N.E. Ohio is in the freakin dangerous level or something and it seems like all my neighbors are cutting grass...I have already loaded up on Allegra but it is not working today...anyway, here are some players that I like on the defense...

Defensive end
- Chris Long - I think he is the best player in the draft and will have a solid NFL career - barring injury...
Sleeper
- Calais Campbell, The U - this dude is freakin 6'8"...he lacks speed, but with his height and talent...he can be a difference maker...
- Tommy Blake, TCU - last year at this time, he was projected as a first rounder...but Blake suffers from depression and quit the team during the fall...at workouts, Blake had a gut on him and did not move well...he is worth a gamble late in the draft...if he could get on the right meds, he can be a steal...

Defensive tackle
- Glenn Dorsey, LSU - how can you not like this kid...he is solid as heck...he plays through injuries...he is one tough sumbitch...
Sleeper
- Red Bryant, Texas A&M - this 6'4", 320 Aggie has everything to make it in the NFL...he just needs to put it all together...he is not going to be an All-Pro, but he could be a quality back-up and a worthy pick if still around in the 4th round...

Inside linebacker
I am not really high on a specific ILB....
Sleeper
- J. Leman, Illinois - Leman suffered an injury in the Rose Bowl which hurt his pre-draft workouts...the kid is a flat out football player...
- Ben Moffitt, South Florida - Moffitt was always right in the middle of every play...he will not be selected until late, but I would roll the dice on this kid...

Outside linebacker
- Keith Rivers, Southern Cal - he is solid...he was always making plays...
Sleeper
- Shawn Crable, Michigan - some publications have him going as high as early third round and as low as 7th round...the kid is an imposing figure...he has the size and speed...in the right situation, he could be the steal of this draft...he can play either D-end or OLB...sounds like someone Belichick or Tomlin would love...

Cornerback

- Aqib Talib, Kansas - the kid is playmaker...but he could get burned in bump and run coverage...he definetly needs help over the top...
Sleeper
- Justin King, Penn State - the kid ran a 4.31 at the Combine...he had some off the field issues at Happy Valley, but the beat writer for the local paper said that King was a good kid and not a troublemaker...
- Orlando Scandrick, Boise State - he is 5'10" and runs the 40 on 4.32...
- Tyvon Branch, U.Conn - 6'0" and runs the 40 in 4.31...
- Dwight Lowery, San Jose State - I saw him in a bowl game two years ago...he was impressive...had an average senior season...worth a gamble late...

Safety

I'm not high on a specific safety...
Sleeper
- Corey Lynch - Appalachian State - this kid makes plays...he is a beast on special teams too - just ask Michigan...

Pre-Draft Thoughts - Atlanta Falcons

I already went to the gym and worked out on the weights and stairmaster for an hour...just finished my pregame meal of Uncle Nick's Greek Fried Chicken, a salad. and a baked potato (need the carbs for the big day)...took the dog for a walk...and now its time for the Draft pregame...

While finishing my meal, I was pondering the Atlanta Falcons pick at number three...I believe they will take Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan...however, all indications from the national circuit speculate the Falcons are going with Glenn Dorsey, the big D-tackle from LSU...

I have nothing against Dorsey...I think he will be a solid pro...but how can the Falcons pass up the best quarterback in the draft when they ahve bums like Joey Harrington and Chris Redman at the helm...

If the Falcons do indeed take Dorsey, that will drop Ryan to the Chiefs at the four spot...earlier this week I had the Chiefs taking offensive lineman Ryan Clady from Boise State...the Chiefs desperately need O-line help...but after trading Jared Allen to Minnesota for the Vikings #16 pick, the Chiefs now have some options...

And I believe if Ryan is there at #4, the Chiefs will select him...K.C. has Brodie Croyle who is nothing more than a second string NFL quarterback and Damon Huard who is like 40-years-old...the Chiefs cannot pass up Ryan at #4...they will then address their O-line needs at #16...

At #16, the Chiefs can possibly get Jeff Otah from Pitt or Gosder Cherilus from Boston College...there is even a chance Branden Albert from Virginia can slide to them...

Thoughts on offensive players

Here is a rundown on the 1 or 2 players who I like along with some, for a lack of a better word, "sleeper" picks at each position

Quarterback
- Joe Flacco, Delaware - I watched him in the I-AA playoffs last season and he was impressive...
Sleeper
- John David Booty, Southern Cal - this kid is worth a pick in the fourth round...Southern Cal played well when he was the starter...

Running back
- Darren McFadden, Arkansas - he will be a solid player in the NFL for many years...he would answer the Jets problems at running back...
Sleeper
- Chris Johnson, East Carolina - Johnson is a versatile back who can run, but is so dangerous catching the ball...
- Kevin Smith, Central Florida - you have to be somewhat good to rush for 2,567 yards in Division I-A football...I also like his size of 6'1"...a nice pick late in the 2nd round...a steal in the 3rd round...
- Mike Hart, Michigan - Hart will probably go in the 4th round...he is worth the gamble...he plays with desire and he has the uncanny ability to make plays...

Wide Receiver
I am not really high on a specific receiver....instead, I would roll the dice on some sleeper players....
Sleeper
- Donnie Avery, Houston - the kid has speed....
- Earl Bennett, Vanderbilt - everything I read, this guy does not have all the top skills, but he is tough as nails like Hines Ward...one publication describes him as "more quick than fast"...
- Dexter Jackson, Appalachian State - this kid has speed that kills...just ask the Michigan secondary as he ran past them twice for big touchdowns...this kid has played in big games with Appy State as they won the I-AA title the last three years...
- D.J. Hall, Alabama - I watched this kid a lot over the years...he is not an elite receiver, but he is worth taking a shot with...

Tight end
- Fred Davis, Southern Cal - Davis is a beast at tight end...he is a hard worker
Sleeper
No sleeper picks here

Offensive tackle
- Jake Long, Michigan - the kid is a freakin giant...he needs to move a bit better on pass protection in the NFL against speed rushers...
Sleeper
- Sam Baker, Southern Cal - going into last season, some had Baker as the better ot in college...Baker was hurt at times last year, so his ranking has slipped a bit...he is worthy of a 2nd round pick...

Offensive guard
I'm not high on a specific og...
Sleeper
- Jeremy Zuttah, Rutgers - I remember this kid when he came out of high school...he is quietly a solid player...

Center
I'm not high on a specific c
Sleeper
- Steve Justice, Wake Forest - Justice is not rated as one of the top 2 centers in this year's draft, but I saw him play in college and he made plays...

Is She Hot or Am I Missing Something? - Patricia Heaton aka Debra Barone

Today, "Is She Hot or Am I Missing Something?" is looking at an older woman...so all you yung-ins who are in your 20s may not be interested..today's featured woman is Patricia Heaton, aka Debra Barone, from Everybody Loves Raymond...

Debra Barone
Heaton was born in 1958 which makes her a half century old...it is common knowledge that she got touched up over the years, most notably her famed boob job...unlike Posh Spice, Heaton's new rack looks good on her body...

Heaton, who was born and raised in Cleveland, had small bits in many television series...her big break came with Everybody Loves Raymond where she played the bitchy wife...I still say that her character, Debra, had something going with Ray's brother, Robert...she is now on some show with Fraser - beats me if it is still on...off screen she is active with many liberal topics...

She was married once and is now hooked up to some British actor...she has four kids and splits her time living in L.A. and London...

My thoughts - I will say this, for 50-years old, Heaton still looks good...but at age 50, I don't think she can be considered a MILF anymore...the one drawback about her is that she is a graduate of Ohio State...in her book, she also chronicled her cocaine habit when she was first breaking into the business...so who knows what else baggage she has?...but in the end, I have to say Heaton is hot...proof of it is the picture on the right which was recently taken for a golf magazine...this leads to the questions:

Do you think Patricia Heaton is hot?

If so, why doesn't she get the publicity?

Am I missing something?

Updated NFL Mock Draft - Round 1

Two weeks ago Stiles Points presented its first mock draft...today's edition is updated....these are the players who I think will be taken by each team...

1. Dolphins - Jake Long, ot, Michigan - it looks like a done deal that Michigan's giant will be the top pick...he is strong a run blocking but needs to work on pass protection especially against speed pass rushers...that could be a dealbreaker... (2 weeks ago - Chris Long)

2. Rams - Glenn Dorsey, dt, LSU - it is either Dorsey or Chris Long...Dorsey will plug up the middle for the Rams... (2 weeks ago - Jake Long)

3. Falcons - Matt Ryan, qb, Boston College - it seems like most publications have the Falcons going for defense with this pick...I don't see how they can pass up Ryan considering the quarterbacks they have... (2 weeks ago - Matt Ryan)

4. Raiders - Chris Long, de/lb, Virginia - this is where it gets interesting...all indications stated that Al Davis is in love with Darren McFadden...but how can he pass up Chris Long if Long should drop to him at #5...I believe Chris Long is the best player in this draft...Davis goes with Long... (2 weeks ago - Darren McFadden)

5. Chiefs - Ryan Clady, ot, Boise State - nothing changes here...the Chiefs need offensive line help ASAP...Kiper is locked into the Chiefs taking offensive lineman Brandon Albert from Virginia with this pick....Albert is moving up on many boards, but I think it is because Kiper is pushing him... (2 weeks ago - Ryan Clady)

6. Jets - Darren McFadden, rb, Arkansas - most publications have the Jets taking Gholston, but there is no way the Jets pass up this stud running back - especially since they are weak at that position... (2 weeks ago - Glenn Dorsey)

7. Patriots - Vernon Gholston, de, Ohio State - I saw two mock drafts that have Gholston going #1 to Miami...if that happens, then the entire first 10 picks will shift... (2 weeks ago - Vernon Gholston)

8. Ravens - Mike Jenkins, cb, S. Florida - the Ravens hope that Matt Ryan slides to them at #8....if not, they have other needs to fill with this pick - one of them being cornerback....even though dt is not a position of need, it will be hard for them to pass up Sedrick Ellis from Southern Cal....I have seen Jenkins listed as high as a top 10 pick and as low as in the 20s....in the end, Ozzie Newsome goes with Jenkins... (2 weeks ago - Mike Jenkins)

9. Bengals - Sedrick Ellis, dt, Southern Cal - this is a no brainer....they need d-line help and Ellis is the best on the board at this point... (2 weeks ago - Sedrick Ellis)

10. Saints - Derrick Harvey, de, Florida - Saints have many problems on defense....Harvey will provide that pass rusher coming off the end... (2 weeks ago - Derrick Harvey)

11. Bills - Devin Thomas, wr, Michigan State - I don't see the Bills going with anyone else but Thomas here, even though the wr's this year are weak..... (2 weeks ago - Devin Thomas)

12. Broncos - Chris Williams, ot, Vanderbilt - the Broncos would love to take olb Keith Rivers here, but they need help on the o-line to protect their young quarterback....
(2 weeks ago - Chris Williams)

13. Panthers - Branden Albert, og, Virginia - this kid's stock is rising fast because of Mel....the Panthers have a need on their o-line.... (2 week ago - Brandon Albert)

14. Bears - Rashard Mendenhall, rb, Illinois - this is what I wrote two weeks ago "this is a no-brainer pick...Cedric Benson sucks"...nothing has changed... (2 weeks ago - Rashard Mendenhall)

15. Lions - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, cb, Tennessee State - originally I had the Lions taking McKelvin...they still go with a cornerback, but switch up and roll the dice with Cromartie who is your typical boom or bust pick... (2 weeks ago - Leodis McKelvin)

16. Cardinals - Keith Rivers, lb, Southern Cal - the Cardinals are overjoyed this guy is still sitting here at #16... (2 weeks ago - Keith Rivers)

17. Vikings - Leodis McKelvin, cb, Troy - two weeks ago I had them taking Brohm, but I think the Vikings will get their quarterback later in the draft....what is the difference between Brohm, Henne, and Flacco?....so they go to fill other needs with this pick... (2 weeks ago - Brian Brohm)

18. Texans - Felix Jones, rb, Arkansas - the Texans need a running back bad....this will take care of that need, plus they get a good kick returner... (2 weeks ago - Felix Jones)

19. Eagles - DeSean Jackson, wr, Cal - DeSean is being trained by Jerry Rice...the Eagles need a playmaker....nuff said.... (2 weeks ago - DeSean Jackson)

20. Buccaneers - Malcolm Kelly, wr, Oklahoma - the Bucs need another threat besides Joey Galloway....and someone who is younger.... (2 weeks ago - Malcolm Kelly)

21. Redskins - Kenny Phillips, s, The U - Mario Manningham would have been a perfect fit here, but he fucked himself over by wanting to keep smoking joints...honestly, I could see Washington trading down because there is not much value here....but if they keep the pick, I think they go with the best safety on the board....and another former U player.... (2 weeks ago - Mario Manningham)

22. Cowboys - Jonathan Stewart, rb, Oregon - Jerry Jones wanted Felix Jones or DeSean Jackson but he loses those two...Stewart makes sense here...plus, before the injury, many had Stewart the second best back on their boards.... (2 weeks ago - Jonathan Stewart)

23. Steelers - Jeff Otah, ot, Pitt - Otah should be able to help right now... (2 weeks ago - Jeff Otah)

24. Titans - Limas Sweed, wr, Texas - the Titans have been needing a big play receiver... (2 weeks ago - Limas Sweed)

25. Seahawks - Kentwan Balmer, dt, North Carolina - Balmer can play anywhere on the line....that versatility makes him the pick ... (2 weeks ago - Phillip Merling)

26. Jaguars - Phillip Merling, de, Clemson - the Jags have a history of taking non-sexy picks... (2 weeks ago - Kentwan Balmer)

27. Chargers - James Hardy, wr, Indiana - the Chargers went with wr Buster Davis last year who has been a bust....they try again at the wr position with the Plaxico Burress-like Hardy.... (2 weeks ago - Gosder Cherilus)

28. Cowboys - Mario Manningham, wr, Michigan - if anyone will take a chance on someone with a possible character issue, it is Jerry Jones...he gets another playmaker to stretch the field....plus, TO may serve as a role model for this kid - not joking!!!...think about it, TO may be an ass, but you never hear about him involved with illegal drugs.... (2 weeks ago - James Hardy)

29. 49ers - Quentin Groves, de, Auburn - I have read that this kid has been impressing scouts of late....the talent is there, but does he have the smarts to put it to good use?... (2 weeks ago - Calais Campbell)

30. Packers - Aqib Talib, cb, Kansas - Talib is a tough read....I have seen him projected to go as high as #8 to the Ravens and as low as the early half of the 2nd round....the Pack need help bad at cb after Eli Manning bludgeoned them in the title game.... (2 weeks ago - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie)

31. Patriots - FORFEIT

32. Giants - Dan Connor, lb, Penn State - the G-men could go with Jerod Mayo here, but I have read that Connor fits the Giants mold.... (2 weeks ago - Dan Connor)

Kurt Streeter of The Los Angeles Times writes how UCS head coach Pete Carroll tries to make a difference in the hard streets of L.A.... "Few know that about twice a month Carroll leaves his comfy digs at USC, hops in the back of a beaten Camry driven by a former gang member and heads to South L.A. neighborhoods where the snap of gunfire and the anguish of death occur with the steady regularity of a metronome. These are not recruiting visits. He's trying to save lives." ...
